No, Redefine rewrites the file to the HD and redefines it in the present
drawing, but all drawings that used the older definition of the symbol are
protected from the new version on the HD unless it is intentionally Reloaded
into those older drawings.

Another place where the confusion comes in is that the new v12 Edit Symbol
ability does not write the symbol to the HD unless you change a setting in
Dcadwin.ini or unless you reset the symbol browser to Drawing and then do a
SaveAs to write the symbol to the HD.

I find it hard to believe that I have been operating this program as long

I have and maybe now find out that when you use the ":redefine" command for

 symbol it only updated for that drawing file!!! I never even considered
that 
it  was only updating the current drawing file! If this is true it is a very

bad  thing. I now am suspicious of ALL my symbols as to if they have been  
updated?
