Re: DBUG> giving up on BitDefender

Why, oh why it never easy? NOD32 apparently doesn't scan Eudora mailboxes (though I read that it does scan incoming POP email, so I'm not sure what to make of that). Kaspersky demanded that I uninstall Zonealarm, even though I was only installing their antivirus. So for the moment, I've just installed the free AVG, though it gets only so-so ratings.

Hi David,

I'm giving up on BitDefender -- it just doesn't play nicely with Eudora (constantly locks files, among other problems) and the new version keeps giving me warnings even when I've unchecked them. What antivirus programs do you like?
Kaspersky seems to get the best ratings generally, though it's a bit expensive.

I've used both Kaspersky and NOD32/Smart Security (from Eset) and I prefer the Smart Security. NOD32 is their antivirus program, and if you also want a firewall, then Smart Security does that too.

Kaspersky has both an antivirus and and a combo AV and firewall program. Kaspersky Internet Security adds a function very much like MailWasher, as well. Nothing wrong with Kaspersky; it is just a little more complicated to use. I think the both have trial versions -- so give 'em a whirl.
