Re: DBUG> DataCAD: CNC Sunflower Grille
Nick,
The mounting tabs will be painted out, of course! That's bein' done as I type, I'm sure, by Mr. Painter Man.
All aluminum is recycled out here. At the large metals workshop, I saw several bins of scrap, neatly sorted.
I should have weighed the art piece before I installed it. Light as a feather.
I wanted to go into the workshops to see the machines and process. Alas, I was in a hurry. Next time. I think this place does a lot of stuff for guys into auto racing, 4X endurance and such as well. One of my clients (the "Autopia" guy) turned me on to them. Great stuff!
Using CNC machining for architectural decoration is spot on, for SOME work. This grille. The stand-up suite indicator lettering for "Autopia." Other deco items. Pretty much anything you can draw up in DataCAD you can pump out of CNC machined aluminum.
Next up, perhaps, we're looking at a custom "wolf's head." Kinda like the lion's head logo at the MGM Grand in Lost Wages, perhaps. Something like that would be a real bear for a regular "wrought iron fence guy," but for the CNC guys, it's all the same.
