Shuford:  I often have the same difficulty in the latest version  11 as you 
have had, and solved it in a similar way... close the program and  reopen it.  
I am guessing it has something to do with the memory.   Sometimes I forget to 
check the Temporary Files and Recover_Archive folders to  keep them empty, 
except for the file in use.

I saved the drawing,  restarted the computer and on bringing in the drawing
again was able to erase  and to place the drawing in one layer.  I am ashamed 
to tell you I do  not know what happened.  I suppose the re-start did it, but I
cannot be  sure.
