Re: DBUG> 11X17 PRINTS
Yeah, 12x18 can be kewl. Nifty when needed. Watch your margins, tho. Some will "scale" to other than 100%. PDF, for instance, will often NOT be exact. Gotta keep an eye on what it's doing.
12x18 is a little harder to "fold and file" than an 11x17, tho. I'll often plot 11x17 of something, like a plan detail, then fold 'n' file it in a standard hanging file folder, along with the 8.5x11 stuff. 11x17, with a special tri-fold return, can also be 3-hole punched or otherwise edge-bound for inclusion in bound report booklets.
So mostly I'm good with 11x17.
Regarding "scaling": If I see someone scale a print, I whoop 'em but good. Remember the old blueprint days? Scaling a print along the "long" dimension absolutely would result in error, every time. Diazo prints always came out distorted (lengthened) along that axis, so nothing "square" ever was.
Of course, it's similar with any printer. Nothing plotted "to scale" on paper ever really IS. I've done enough "lofting" of full-size patterns to be quite familiar with THAT issue.
