Move vs Copy
Fred Martin & all,
On 7/27 I wrote:
In common usage "move" means move and "copy" means copy.
All the seldom used array-type stuff should be a sub-menu
under copy, not the main feature of the copy menu.

Strongly disagree here. The beauty of DataCAD lies in that
the toggles can change the face of a command in an instant.
Every other CAD package out there has five-deep menus, which
contribute to it's clumsiness and difficulty to learn.
My reply... Using the heads-up philosophy of DataCAD (designed to keep you
from looking at the keyboard constantly) I (1) look to make sure I'm on the
edit menu [how many times have i hit f1 and get thrown into (on my scales
anyway) 36" scale].... (2) then (not looking down) with my left hand always
poised above f1,2,3, I hit f1 twice while right hand mouses to whatever I
want to move...then (3) I hit f1,2,3 (EGAF), select it, select a handle,
move it, and drop it. All of which I can do very quickly. That's when I
usually find out I've copied instead of moved. I'd like to be able to just
hit f1 for move and f2 for copy. As for layers and layers of menus,
DataCAD has this also, but the commonly used stuff is right at the top...
creating an array circular or rectangular is not something I do very often.
In fact I'd say I do a simple copy of an entity, group, area, probably 1000
times more often than I create an array. I probably copy as much as I move,
also. Toggles are important, that's why SWOTHLUD exists, but if you have to
constantly check which way they're toggled it decreases your productivity.
Like I'm constantly hitting the apostrophe (layer search) on/off to be sure
it's the way I want. I'd much rather see a light or flag somewhere in the
menu system that will tell me without my having to INQUIRE a toggles status.
That off my chest, I have a silly question (since I temporarily have a
different monitor/video board combination and can't use my DCAD here at home):
What if, when I go into the copy menu, I *ignore* the RectArry and CircArry,
and just give it two points for distance, then select vie EGAF... will it
copy?? Could it be possible that copy works like move and copy except it
doesn't have a drag?? It certainly seems that way from the book. Maybe
this has been much ado about almost nothing?
