RE: Using DataCAD with OS2 by Curtis B. Wayne-Cheap Tricks reprint
I have a question more specific to how you're running Dcad under OS/2.
The main problem I've had with running multiple instances of Datcad under
Windows has been one of file locking. When running dcad, no matter what
drawing you're working with, dcad opens certain files, like the dcad.cfg and the
linetypes and dxf patterns and such general files -- under windows, only one
installation of dcad will run at a time (you can run 2 copies if you installed
it in 2 different directories), but running the same installation causes the new
instance of dcad to bomb -- if Os/2 DOES let you run the same installation more
than once, how does it handle those files that both instances have open
simultaneously? ie: if you change your template path in dcad #1, and switch
over to dcad #2 and change the template path there, which one wins? Dcad
wasn't written for a multi-tasking environment, so it doesn't have built in
record locking and the such... I would think that one could easily destroy
hours of work in one session by saving it, then switching to another session
and saving what was done in that session right over the one you just MEANT to
keep.
I don't have OS/2, so I can't check this myself, I'm just interested in how OS/2
gets past the limitations of the DCAD program..
