That problem was fixed in DataCad version 5.03.  5.02 is what most dcad5 users 
are using, as it was the version shipped, but an update consisting of 2 files on 
the Cadkey BBS (D1.EXE and D2.EXE) will update your existing dcad5.02 to 5.03 -- 
which both solves the DXF problem and the boundary hatch bug.  The number for 
the Cadkey BBS is (203)298-6405.

As far as it being a 'cheap' trick, well, the upgrade is free, you just have to 
pay for the long distance call.
