Being new to this area of communication I feel a bit scared, but what the
hell here goes.
I agree with P. Hart, I have very little reaction to this M.Davies moving on.
The product is the element that concerns me. There isn't much time left
before the technology from the 'other' compitition will render DataCAD
out-of-date for lack of improvement. I had hoped for a stronger 3rd party
hand when CADKEY took over but we were washed again. Somehow I get the
feeling that there's no one at CADKEY that understands the Architectural
profession or market and therefore do not know the needs and wants of the
profession, just a personal feeling. Yes I know MD was an architect-I dont
know anything about his professional practice background
I have been using and teaching DataCAD for several years now and I'm very
aware of the quality of the product. In fact I sold the product as a dealer
until it became financially unsound to sell the product. I still support
several individuals and firms in the use of the product. The product is
extremely good for it's intended purposes. I have no major problems with the
product. The problems are as indicated by Mr's. Hart and D'Amico. Cadkey
never has been real positive with the product. Those other Architectural CAD
programs still control the market because as M. Davies said "DataCAD is the
best kept secret in the CAD market". It still remains so positioned even
after some effort to promate via price changes. The missed opportunitys for
exposure in national professional publications probley has set back the
market potential of the product at least a couple of years. (regardless of
the reasons for the error).
I hope that there is an improvement in the system of advertisement and
program inhancements under the new leadership. I still like DataCAD. Nuff
from me.
