DBUG> Re: Allen's cell phone towers
I did some research into EMFs about 6 months ago after a client came to me
clutching a magazine article about the latest housing phobia - EMFs.
The house featured in the article had no electrical circuits in any sleeping
areas of the house, no steel reinforcing in concrete foundations or floor slab
and a bare minimum of steel connectors, all on the advice of an Eco-consultant
to reduce the level of EMFs lurking in the darkened corners.
The homeowner in the article, who had previously suffered a nasty experience
with a chemically overloaded house, selected her framing timber by sleeping
overnight with lengths of different species in the bed and based her decision
on how she felt in the morning. Fringe end of the market obviously (they're
out there man!) - but I digress.
Back to the EMFs. The latest research that I could find on the internet was a
very recently released report (then) from a University in California and from
memory the results went something like this : the final conclusion was that
repeated exposure to high levels of EMF may consitute a health risk. Nobody
risking their PI insurance on that one.
What came out of the rest of the data was that the highest levels of EMFs were
generated by overhead power lines carrying in excess of 2kV and large
electromagnets, both for a distance of up to 30 metres. Cell phone towers
didn't rate.
The other interesting factor that they commented on was that the highest level
of EMF that Joe Public is likely to experience comes from sleeping on an
electric blanket while it is on.
The report authors had come across a survey relating to pregnant women
sleeping on electric blankets which gave a combination of most vulnerable form
of human life i.e. foetus exposed to highest levels of EMF commonly found and
there was a statistically significant reduction in the number of premature
births, deformities, cot deaths etc. from those sleeping on the electric
blankets and exposed to the EMFs.
It put my clients mind at ease, but would I live or work under a cellphone
tower - no.
